Diamond Point Pen & Jeremiah 17:1

God has taught me the power of prophetic acts, prophetic vision and prophetic symbols. This pen hits all three categories. I pulled this pen out of my desk to sign off on one of God’s latest strategic moves that proves His presence in my life and yet again stamps the weight of God’s glory on me.

Several years ago this pen was given to me. I never understood why it was given to me. It didn’t come nicely wrapped in a box. It wasn’t accompanied by a bow or card. No, it wasn’t a gift of that sort. Without knowing the prophetic symbol of the pen, the box was placed on my desk and sled towards me. The brand is 5280 and the series name of the pen is Diamond. None of that meant anything to me when it was given to me, and it didn’t mean a thing to me until yesterday.

Through the years this pen has remained in my desk drawer still in the box. I’ve attempted to use the pen but never liked holding it in my hand. The heaviness, the bulkiness of the pen always overshadowed the joy of writing. Several times I considered getting rid of the pen. Perhaps I would throw it away in the trash.

Perhaps I would place it in a box with other items headed to the donation store. I knew within that it simply wasn’t time for me to part with this pen even though I didn’t understand the reason.

Sitting at my desk, the presence of the Lord surrounding me, and this form requiring my signature didn’t seem especially significant until I heard God say, “Use the pen”. So, I went into my desk drawer, pulled out the pen, and signed off on what God had performed on my behalf. I placed the pen down and didn’t put it back into the box. It was then that Holy Spirit began to give revelation on this pen. Let me share.

Jeremiah 17:1 states “The sin of Judah is written with an iron pen; with a diamond point it is engraved on the tablet of their hearts, and on the horns of their altars..” This is the NRSV of the scripture. The Message Translation is far more graphic. Read it when you have an interest.

According to commentaries, an iron stylus (iron pen) was used for permanent engravings not easily removed. This metaphor spoke to the severity of Judah’s sin. The diamond represented hardness of heart.

The life of a prophet can be wrapped in many adventures, one of which is the appearance of prophetic symbols, prophetic vision, and prophetic acts. The symbols always point to a spiritual reality. I still don’t like to use this pen, but now I understand prophetically why the weight of it is so uncomfortable for me. When God puts His weight down, it is not dismissed. It is not easily removed. It is a severe spiritual reality. God has spoken and continues to speak the prophetic symbolism of this pen says to me, “That which is under the weight of God on this matter is feeling the permanent pressure of the Lord. For I am the Lord God who fights for you.”

Imagine. A pen named Diamond is given to me years in advance for now.

Pay attention to the prophetic actions, symbols, and visions the Lord provides. They serve as markers for the strategic moves carried out by the Holy Spirit.

My soul takes delight in the Lord. Trust God with all of your heart. Know that God is well able to perfect and hold harmless everything you’ve committed to Him. Most of all, rest assured as I’ve learned, God keeps His own counsel which means that God knows the best way to handle every situation concerning you. God doesn’t need our recommendations for solutions. God simply needs our faithful obedience. AMEN.

To God be the glory.
